Presented is a 1921-22 George "High Pockets" Kelly game used and signed Hillerich and Bradsby Louisville Slugger bat, Model Number 5-11-21. Kelly played in the Major Leagues for 16 seasons (1915-17, 1919-30 & 1932). He was most known for his two tenures with the New York Giants (1915-17 & 1919-26), and he also played for the Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates. At 6'4", Kelly was very tall for his time, and thus he received his famous "High Pockets" nickname. Mostly a first baseman, in 1921 Kelly batted .308, with an NL-leading 23 home runs, and he had 122 RBIs. In '22, Kelly continued his batting prowess, batting .328, with 17 home runs and 107 RBIs. Kelly batted a career .297, with 1,778 hits and 148 home runs. The ash bat has a standard finish. It has a length of 34.25" and a weight of 39.2 ounces. The bat is uncracked and exhibits evidence of excellent use. A number of stitch impressions and ball marks are visible on the left, right, and back barrel. Cleat impressions are visible on the right barrel. Kelly's signature, in red felt pen, is on the back barrel. This is the only High Pockets Kelly signed bat of which we know. The signature is on the barrel in red, so the contrast is not great, but it is still very clear to the naked eye. The bat comes with a JSA letter for the signature (Submission Number 130553). The bat has a C-3B center brand, which appeared on Louisville Slugger Pro bats from 1919-22. Kelly's branded signature on the face of the barrel shows that Kelly was under an endorsement contract with the manufacturer. The signed bat comes with a PSA Letter of Grading and Authenticity. The bat also comes with a PSA/DNA Certification: 1B08723 and has a bat grade of PSA GU 9. This offering represents a chance to own what we consider one of the finest George Kelly bats on the planet.
