Presented is a 1940s Joe DiMaggio New York Yankees vintage original Type I photo that is a rare image of DiMaggio just after making contact with the ball. Although the Hall of Fame center fielder finished his 13-year MLB career, entirely with the New York Yankees, with 361 home runs, at the time of his retirement fifth on the All-Time MLB list, he was also a tremendous contact hitter. Compared to the present day, when power hitters routinely easily exceed 100 strikeouts per season, DiMaggio rarely fanned. For example, in 1941, the year of his amazing, and still MLB record, 56-game hitting streak, he struck out only a minuscule 13 times while batting .357, hitting 30 home runs, and leading the AL with 125 RBIs. For his career, the most the Yankee Clipper ever whiffed in a season was 39 times, in his rookie 1939 campaign. Thus, a photo of DiMaggio making contact is totally apropos for Joltin' Joe. The 8x10" black & white photo shows Joe D. in an away Yankee uniform. The ballpark is unknown. The photo has a matte finish. The photo exhibits some wear in the corners and some fading, but it is in overall Very Good condition, with nice clarity and contrast. The verso is blank. The original photograph has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as Type I AUTHENTIC.
