Presented is a vintage photo of an early 20th Century barnstorming baseball team with an African American player, in the top row, third from right. In the years of the 20th Century before Jackie Robinson broke the modern baseball "color line" in 1947, most amateur and semi-pro teams were segregated. There were exceptions, however. Racially mixed teams, like the barnstorming one that is pictured, were most prevalent in the Midwest (including the Dakotas) and in California. The photo also shows two young boys, who were most likely mascots and/or batboys with the touring club. The photo measures 6.3x8.2". It rests atop thick card stock. The underlying card stock is roughly trimmed, and uneven, and the photo has paper loss along the left margin and in the top right corner. There are also a few small stains and a small visual seam in the offering. Overall, excepting the above-mentioned imperfections, the photo is a nice image, clear and with great contrast.
