Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American engineer and inventor best known for his work in the development of the design of modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system. Presented is a 1937 Nikola Tesla PSA Type III International News Photo. Showing an intense interest in science and math at an early age, Tesla as a young man worked in Paris, France, for the [Thomas] Edison Machine Works. In 1884, he emigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. He worked for a short while for the Edison Machine Works in New York City. He achieved marked success over time, and his AC induction motor and related polyphase AC patents created wealth for him over the years, particularly from his work with Westinghouse. He and Edison had quite a rivalry over the years, and they became enemies. The offered black & white photo measures 5x7", and it depicts Tesla in formal attire. The photo is a period example that was made from a duplicate negative. The back of the photo has a King Features stamp. The suggested slug line on the back of the photo reads, in part, "TELLS OF HIS DEATH RAY 'DEFENSE WALL.' New York. Nikola Tesla, one of the world's foremost scientists, who celebrated his 78th birthday by telling of his 'Wall of Force', an invisible screen made of death rays, through which nothing can pass." The offered photo appears to have some markings that appeared on the original photo, and there is a visible indentation made from when a paper clip must have been used on the photo. Aside from the aforementioned slight imperfections, the photo is in very nice condition. The offering comes with a PSA LOA, Photograph Certification: 1P15901.
