Displayed is a 1940s Babe Ruth single-signed McGregor baseball. The Sultan of Swat signed the ball on the sweet spot, in blue ink. The signature is now very faded, but still legible. Ruth, a left-handed thrower and batter, wrote right-handed, and he signed the ball in his usual beautiful handwriting. Ruth is an inaugural inductee to the Hall of Fame. Ruth was an outstanding pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, and he finished his Major League career with a 94-46 record, with a 2.26 ERA. After playing some outfield for the Red Sox, Ruth became a full-time outfielder when he was sold to the New York Yankees in January of 1920. Ruth's powerful home run hitting revolutionized baseball. His 714 lifetime home runs were the standard until passed by Henry Aaron in 1974. Ruth was an amazing athlete. He is the only person to have won both a league ERA title and a league batting title. He still holds the all-time MLB record for both career slugging (.690) and lifetime OPS (1.164). The ball is an Official League Ball. The ball is in excellent condition, despite a few very small spots or stains. A light coat of shellac is on the ball. The auto rates 5/10. Full LOA from PSA.
