Presented is an Oct. 23, 1977, Jack Lambert Pittsburgh Steelers' game ball award. Hall of Famer Lambert played his entire NFL career with Pittsburgh, and he was a key member, at middle linebacker, of four Steelers' Super Bowl Champions. As a rookie, Lambert was listed at 6'4" and 220 lbs., but he was actually much lighter, at 207 lbs. He was thought by many to be too light for middle linebacker, but Pittsburgh utilized him as a dropback middle linebacker who covered the passing lanes in front of the two safeties in a Tampa Two defense, and Lambert's size and speed were ideal for the position. Lambert was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1974 and the Defensive Player of the Year in 1976. The 9-time Pro Bowler has a career 1,479 total tackles, 28 interceptions, and 17 fumble recoveries. Sacks were not officially kept during most of Lambert's playing years. The offering is a Wilson NFL ball. Brightly painted on one panel is, "Sun. Oct. 23, 1977/3 Rivers Stadium/JACK LAMBERT/Steelers 27/Oilers 10." In that game, Lambert had a key interception that he returned for five yards. Lambert signed and inscribed the ball using a metallic silver pen. On one panel, he signed his name in big and bold, neat script and clearly inscribed, "#58 HOF 90." The football has a water stain, but it is in overall nice condition. It does not hold air. The ball is from Jack Lambert's personal collection.
