Known as "Big Klu," Ted Kluszewski was a 6'2", 225 lb. power hitter, famous for his massive biceps. Offered is a circa 1950s 4x5" black & white original Type I photograph of Kluszewski, and after editorial inks were applied to the negative, it was used for his 1954 Red Heart, 1955 Topps card #120, and 1956 Topps card #25. Big Klu played in the Major Leagues from 1947-57: Cincinnati Reds/Redlegs (1947-57), Pittsburgh Pirates (1958-59), Chicago White Sox (1959-60), Los Angeles Angels (1961). Ted batted a career .298, with 279 home runs. His best season was in '54 when he was the NL MVP. That year he batted .328, and he led the NL in home runs (49), and RBIs (141). In the early 1950s, Kluszewski cut off the sleeves of his Cincinnati uniform to give his biceps more freedom of movement, and it raised quite a commotion. Kluszewski explained: "They got pretty upset, but it was either that or change my swing - and I wasn't about to change my swing." Later on, the entire Cincinnati team went to all sleeveless jerseys for a time. Big Ted was a 4-time All-Star and a 2-time World Series Champion. After his playing career, Kluszewski became a batting coach, and he was the batting coach for the Cincinnati Reds' Big Red Machine World Champions of 1975-76. The offered photo exhibits an added white background from where the editorial ink was applied. The original Type I photo is by William N. Jacobellis, and the back of the photo has the stamp of Jacobellis and "Ted Kluszewski" written in pencil by an unknown hand. The offering comes with a PSA LOA (Photograph Cert. 1P08635).
