Displayed is a full ticket issued for the night game between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox at Yankee Stadium on September 11, 2001. The ticket has been encapsulated and PSA Graded Full Gem MINT 10 (Pop 1 - highest graded). This game, of course, was never played because of the morning attack on that day at the World Trade Center in New York City. All Major League games were canceled for a week following 9/11, and the Yankees-White Sox game scheduled for that day was eventually played on October 1st. When the ticketed game was made up on Oct. 1, 2001, at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees defeated the White Sox by an 8-1 score, with starter Sterling Hitchcock getting the win over Chicago starter Kip Wells. With the majority of Yankee fans still in shock and mourning, only 8,112 attended. The Yankees went on to a 95-65-1 season record, good for first place in the AL East, and the Bronx Bombers made the World Series, losing 4-3 in games to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The ticket measures 2x5.6". The machine printing on the ticket reads, in part, "Yankees/Twenty Six-Time World Champions/Yankee Stadium/2001 SEASON/vs CHICAGO WHITE SOX/TUE SEP 11, 2001/7:05PM." The Gem MINT ticket makes a poignant remembrance of the 9/11 events.
