Presented is a 1956 Pro Bowl full ticket to the NFL's sixth annual All-Star contest, held on January 15, 1956, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The ticket has a PSA grade of VG-EX 4, POP 1, NONE HIGHER. The '56 Pro Bowl was a wild affair, won by the East over the West, 31-30 - a contest that ended in controversy. With the East leading 31-30, the West's Bert Rechichar attempted a 50-yard field goal in the closing seconds. The ball fell short of the goal post but was fielded by the East's Scotter Scudero of the Washington Redskins. Scudero took a few steps back into the end zone, and the referee ruled it a touchback, giving the ball to the East on their own 20-yard line. The West coach, Sid Gilman of the Rams, protested vehemently, but there was no replay then, and the decision held. However, as game films now clearly show, the call should have been a safety and that would have given the West two points and a 32-31 victory. The game was a seesaw battle all the way. Jack Christiansen of the East's Chicago Cardinals opened the scoring on the game's first play with a 103-yard kickoff return. The West's Ollie Matson opened the second half with a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The crowd of 37,867 probably witnessed the most exciting Pro Bowl there ever was, and in addition to the stars already named, fans saw a panoply of terrific football luminaries, such as Eddie LeBaron, Norm Van Brocklin, Frank Gifford, Chuck Bednarik, Art Donovan, Bobby Layne, Night Train Lane, Emlen Tunnell, Kyle Rote, Gino Marchetti, and Charlie Conerly. The offered full ticket measures 2.6x6". It has an image of Billy Wilson, the Outstanding Pro Bowl player in '55, and it reads, in part, "FOOTBALL 6TH ANNUAL All-Star PRO BOWL/Eastern Conference versus Western Conference/L.A. COLISEUM SUN. 1:00 P.M. JAN. 15, 1956/WORKING PRESS/Stairway 7Row 72 Seat 16." The ticket has been encapsulated and PSA graded VG-EX 4. It is a POP 1, NONE HIGHER, in fact, the only one ever graded by PSA.
