Presented is a 1979-80 very rare, Type I original color photograph of that season's NBA Rookie of the Year, Hall of Famer Larry Bird. Bird played his entire 13-year NBA career with the Boston Celtics. "The Hick from French Lick" out of Indiana State played power forward his rookie year and averaged 21.3 PPG, with 10.4 TRB and 4.3 AST. That season the Boston Celtics had a regular season record of 61-21 and in the playoffs lost the Eastern Conference Final 4-1 in games to the Philadelphia 76ers. For his career, Bird averaged 23.5 PPG, with 10.0 TRB and 6.3 AST. Playing both power forward and small forward in his NBA tenure, Bird changed basketball by essentially inventing a new position - that of "point forward." At that spot, the Celtics usually ran their offense through Bird rather than running it through a point guard. Bird was a 12-time All-Star, a 3-time MVP, a 3-time NBA Champion, a 3-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team, and a 2-time NBA Finals MVP. The offered photo measures 3.5x4.9". It shows Bird, his youth very apparent in his appearance, sitting next to Celtics coach Bill Fitch. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as TYPE I AUTHENTIC, and the autograph has also been authenticated by PSA. Bird has neatly signed the photo in big and bold blue marker. The photo is in NRMT condition.
