Some persons contend that Brooklyn, and in particular Brooklyn Dodgers baseball, was in a world of its own, so the following offering was undoubtedly popular. Displayed is a scarce and lighthearted novelty item - a 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers souvenir "passport." Unfolded, the paper passport measures 6x7.25", but it has been folded into eight pages, each 3x3.8". Titled "PASSPORT To That Most Beautiful STATE of MIND," the "passport" uses Dodger blue ink to mix levity with bragging about Brooklyn's World Series win in '55. The passport was printed in 1956. It lists the place, scores, and winning and losing pitchers for each of the seven games in the '55 Series. It reads, "It HAPPENED IN BROOKLYN/...City-1834/Borough-1888/State of Mind - Always/If it's new, different or hasn't happened in baseball, it'll happen in Brooklyn." It contains images of the Dodgers' Series roster and has lots of statistics. The names of Robinson, Reese, Hodges, Campanella, Snider, and so many others are in this little vintage gem. It also has an image of the world, with the Dodger "Bum" literally on top of the world. The faux passport fits inside a card stock passport holder measuring 3.1x4". Also included is a 3.6x4.6" envelope for the passport holder. The envelope has some stains and foxing. It reads, in part, "Here is your BROOKLYN 'PASSPORT' baseball novelty." As expected, the passport shows some slight darkening because of the passage of nearly seventy years, but overall, the passport is in excellent condition. The offering makes a great nostalgia piece for any baseball fan.
