Jesse Owens was the superstar of the 1936 Olympics, as he won an unprecedented four gold medals in track and field. Presented is a Jesse Owens signed and inscribed file card. Owens was born James Cleveland Owens, and was known as "JC," but when his grammar school teacher didn't understand his pronunciation with a Southern accent, she thought he said "Jesse" and the name stuck. Owens attended Ohio State University. In the 1936 Olympics, Owens was running not only against track and field opponents but against Adolph Hitler's propaganda of Aryan supremacy. With Hitler in the stands, Owens won his then-record-setting four medals: 100 meters, long jump, 200 meters, and 4x100 meters relay. The Nazi presence was already poisoning Germany, but Owens's accomplishments were a slap in the face of Hitler. Sadly, Owens later found it hard to remain employed in the United States as racial discrimination made it impossible at times for him to gain employment that paid a decent wage or salary. Owens used what appears to be blue ink from a fountain pen to sign the blank side of a 3x5" file card. The passage of time appears to have faded the ink to an almost reddish hue. In neatly written script, Owens wrote: "My Kindest Regards/Jesse Owens 36 Olympics." Both sides of the file card have darkened from the passage of years. The lined side of the file card has "2-" written in pencil by an unknown hand. The signed card has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
