Presented is a very scarce item, a circa 1940s vinyl football helmet. Like the leather helmets that came before it, the vinyl helmet has ear flaps, circular holes for ventilation (15, not including the ones in the earflaps) interior wool padding, and extensive stitching. There are two names written in ink in the interior by an unknown hand, but the ink has faded in spots and blurred in others, and the names are no longer legible. The helmet exhibits extensive spotting and some stains. The front interior forehead protection appears to be made of leather. This piece shows wear and surface loss. The helmet is in EX-MT condition, and it's possible that it may not even have been used. The helmet is approx. 6" across at its widest. It has a length of approx. 9.25". The vinyl helmet weighs only 12.75 ounces.
