"He was the greatest cornerman who ever played pro basketball," said Hall of Famer Bill Sharman about fellow Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor. Offered is a circa 1960s original Elgin Baylor Los Angeles Lakers signed Type I photo. A small forward, Baylor was, according to Hall of Fame guard Oscar Robertson, "The original high flier." Baylor played 14 NBA seasons, from 1958-72, all for the Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers. Elgin had terrific leaping ability and body control, and near the end of his drives to the basket, he would seemingly hang in the air as he twisted his body, sometimes changing hands on the ball, before successfully scoring on yet another, twisting move. Baylor averaged 27.4 PPG for his career, with 13.5 RPG. He was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1958-59, and he teamed with fellow superstars Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain in an effort to bring the Los Angeles Lakers the NBA Championship. The Lakers did win the '72 Championship, but Baylor was able to play only nine games, in the beginning of the season, because injuries had slowed him and forced his in-season retirement. The 11-time All-Star was named to the NBA's 35th, 50th, and 75th Teams. The nearest current NBA star with the renown to which Baylor was held would be the fame accorded LeBron James at his career peak. The 8x10" black & white photo depicts Baylor at a Lakers practice facility, dressed in the team's home uniform. Baylor signed the photo in neatly scripted, black ink. The photo has been encapsulated, and the the autograph is PSA/DNA Certified and the photo Certified as TYPE I AUTHENTIC.
