Imperial cabinet photograph capturing the many attendees at the "Smoker in Honor of 'Jimmy' Callahan Given by the Pittsburgh Stove League Annex Hotel Jan.-24-1916." The panoramic image captures much of the banquet room, with Callahan, Honus Wagner, and Pirates team owner Barney Dreyfuss clearly visible seated at the main table. An inset portrait image of Callahan also appears in the upper left corner. The photographer's credit, R. W. Johnston Studios of Pittsburgh, appears in the lower right corner of the photo. 1916 marked Callahan's first season as manager of the Pirates and this "smoker" appears to be his official welcoming party prior to heading off to his inaugural spring training with the club. The photo (13.75x9") remains in Near Mint condition. The mount (17x12.5") displays light toning, a few tiny border chips, and water staining along the top border.
