Presented is a late 1930s pinback button featuring Lou Gehrig from a time during the twilight of the New York Yankee's playing career. The Iron Horse set a Major League record for consecutive games played with 2,130, a mark that stayed the record for 56 years until broken by Cal Ripken Jr. Gehrig was a 2-time AL MVP, a Triple Crown winner, and a 7-time All-Star. He batted a career .340, with 493 home runs and 1,995 RBIs. Usually batting fourth in the Yankees lineup behind Babe Ruth, Gehrig's great hitting enabled Babe Ruth to get better pitches with Gehrig's protection. Gehrig was on six Yankees World Champions. The offered button has a diameter of 1.75". It reads, Yankees/Lou Gehrig, and has a black-and-white depiction of Gehrig. Attached to the Gehrig button with a blue and white ribbon, is a "baseball" ornament, with a diameter of about 1.6". The offering is one of the few souvenir pinbacks made of Gehrig. It was sold at Yankee Stadium and/or surrounding stores. The pin, ribbon, and tin baseball ornament are EX-MT.
