Outstanding Joe DiMaggio original Type I photograph capturing him in the midst of his historic record-setting consecutive-game hitting streak in 1941. The classic image pictures DiMaggio in his follow-through swing during a game against the Philadelphia Athletics at Shibe Park on June 27, 1941. The original Wide World Photos paper news caption affixed to the reverse makes note that this swing resulted in a home run for the Yankee Clipper and helped extend his hitting streak to 39 games. DiMaggio's home run came in the top of the seventh inning with nobody on and despite his efforts (he also had a single one the day), the Yankees lost the game, 7-6. DiMaggio's hitting streak captivated the nation during the summer of 1941. At the time of this photo DiMaggio was on the precipice of history. The next day he tied Ty Cobb's American League record of hitting in forty consecutive games, and a few days later, on July 2, he broke Willie Keeler's Major League record by hitting in forty-five consecutive games. In addition to the news caption, a Wide World Photos credit stamp and several editorial notations appear on the reverse. The photo (8x6.25"), which offers exceptional clarity and contrast, displays a few tiny wrinkles and is in Excellent condition overall. Encapsulated as Type I Authentic by PSA.
