Decorative award presented to Yankees catcher Thurman Munson for his participation in the 1974 All-Star Game. The design of the award, in the shape of a baseball diamond, features a wood border bearing the enameled logos of each American League team. In the center is a Derby Vox electronic clock, below which is the American League logo and an engraved plaque that reads "Presented to Thurman Munson for his participation as a member of the American League Team in the Major League All Star Game Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania July 23, 1974 - Lee MacPhail President." This piece, which originates from Munson's estate, was meant as a wall display and features a hook on the top of the reverse for hanging. The clock can be easily removed for setting (it runs on a battery; which is not included). There are a few small abrasions to the plaque, otherwise, the award (14x14x1.75") remains in Excellent to Mint condition (the clock does not appear to be in working order, but can most likely be repaired). 1974 marked the third of Munson's eventual seven All-Star Game appearances. Munson started at catcher for the injured Carlton Fisk and played the entire game, contributing a double in three at bats for the American League in its 7-2 loss that night. Munson finished the 1974 season with 13 home runs, 60 RBI, and a .261 batting average, while winning his second consecutive Gold Glove Award. Munson later served as Yankees captain from 1976 until his tragic death in 1979, the same year in which the Yankees retired his number 15.
