Known as "the Hick from French Lick," Larry Bird came out of the State of Indiana and Indiana State University to become a superstar with the Boston Celtics and one of the greatest NBA players of all time. Displayed is a 1991 Larry Bird shooting shirt. Bird played 13 NBA seasons, all with the Boston Celtics. At 6'9", he played both small forward and strong forward. He was a 3-time NBA Champion, a 3-time MVP, and a 2-time Finals MVP. For his pro career, Bird recorded 24.3 PPG, 10.0 RPG and 6.3 AST. His great all-around skills helped to change the game, as he essentially created the position of "point forward," in which a team runs its offense through a forward. Bird had a famous on-court college rivalry with Michigan State's Magic Johnson, which continued into the NBA with Johnson on the Los Angeles Lakers. Yet, the two became friends and at Bird's retirement party, Magic Johnson said, "Larry, you only told me one lie. You said there will be another Larry Bird. Larry, there will never, ever be another Larry Bird." The offered 1991 shooting shirt is white, will green and gold trim. In the 1991-92 season, the Boston Celtics finished in first place in the Atlantic Division and were eliminated in the Conference Semi-Finals. In the collar is an NBA tag reading, NBA Champion (manufacturer)/YEAR 1991 ID#/BODY LENGTH +0/SLEEVE LENGTH +2. Also in the collar is a Champion manufacturer's tag showing size 46. Adjacent to the foregoing tag is a tag giving washing instructions. The left sleeve has a Champion tag, and each short sleeve has a green shamrock, with gold trim. Across the chest is CELTICS in sewn-on green letters with gold trim. Near the right shoulder is a sewn-on NBA logo. Seven metal snaps run down the front. The back has a green sewn-on nameplate, with BIRD in sewn-on white letters. There are a few light stains on the lower right front. The left shamrock has a few small white paint transfers. The nameplate shows a number of white paint or chalk-like transfers. Although the shooting shirt shows good use, it is in overall nice condition. To possess a Larry Bird shooting shirt is to own a shooting shirt from one of the best shooters in professional basketball history.
