Presented is a circa 1951 Rogers Hornsby Seattle Rainiers Professional Model H117 Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger bat. Hall of Fame second baseman Hornsby played 23 Major League seasons: St. Louis Cardinals (1915-26 & 1933), New York Giants (1927), Boston Braves (1928), Chicago Cubs (1929-32), St. Louis Browns (1933-37). He had a lifetime batting average of .353, with 301 home runs. He was a 2-time NL MVP and a star player on the 1926 St. Louis Cardinals World's Champions. Hornsby won seven batting titles. Nicknamed "the Rajah", Hornsby was obsessed with hitting, and he did not attend movies for fear of damaging his eyesight. Hornsby also managed six Major League teams, often as a player-manager. He also managed extensively in the minor leagues and as the Seattle Rainiers manager in 1951, he led the team to the Pacific Coast League Championship. The offered bat is made of ash with a standard finish. It is cracked in the upper handle, where it has been secured with four nails. The handle has been scored for grip. The bat is 35.0"in length, and it weighs 34.7 ounces. The offering comes with a PSA/DNA LOA, which states, in part, "Hornsby's Louisville Slugger ordering records show him receiving bats as late as 1972. The subject bat was ordered by Hornsby on May 18th, 1951. The order calls for 12 bats, 35 inches in length with a requested weight of 35.5 ounces. The record page includes the names of 4 minor league teams Hornsby was affiliated with including the 'Seattle BBC.'" The bat exhibits great use, with ball marks, chips, and small stains. There is a sticker on the bat with a PSA Certification#: 1B30980.
