Vintage game worn helmet from the early years of the St. Louis Blues franchise, circa late 1960s, early '70s. White helmet comes with original chinstrap and shows nice use with scuffs and transfers throughout and wear to the inside foam padding. Decals forming the number 17 are on the back, along with a Blues logo decal on each side (interestingly, the one on the right is backwards, so that the "winged" portion of the logo is pointing to the back on both sides). The Rawlings logo and model on the right are mostly covered by the logo, though the Rawlings outline is visible through the decal. It appears that the helmet is a model HH20, manufactured in the late 1960s during the brief window in which the iconic company produced hockey helmets, making this a rarity. Blues who wore number 17 during that period include; Don McKenney 1968; Jean-Guy Talbot 1969-71; John Arbour 1971-72; Larry Hornung 1972; Gord Kannegiesser 1972; Phil Roberto 1972-1975. Action photos from that era are scarce, and the NHL did not mandate helmet usage until 1979, with the vast majority of players opting not to wear one during this period. In our search, Kannegiesser is the only player we've seen with a helmet, though it was actually earlier in his career and a different style. He played just four games for St. Louis in '71-72.
