Hank Greenberg was a Hall of Fame first baseman and outfielder who was one of the great home run sluggers of his era. Presented is a Greenberg single-signed Official American League Baseball (Brown). Greenberg played in the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers (1930, 1933-41 & 1945-46) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (1947). He was the first Jewish player elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Greenberg was a lifetime .313 hitter, with 331 home runs. His overall MLB statistics reflect the time that he spent in the U.S. Army during World War II, as he served in the military from May 1941 until June 1945, a total of 47 months in uniform, longer than any other Major League player during World War II. In 1938, Greenberg made a very serious run at Babe Ruth's single-season home run record of 60, as Hank hit 58 round-trippers. Greenberg suffered from some prejudice because of his religion, and he was very supportive of Jackie Robinson, who endured much racial prejudice when he broke the Major League color line in 1947. That season was Greenburg's last, and he was playing first base for the Pittsburgh Pirates early in the '47 season when he and the Brooklyn Dodgers' Robinson had an accidental collision near first base. After asking if Robinson was all right, Greenberg said to the Dodgers trailblazer, "Stick in there. You're doing fine. Keep your chin up." Robinson always remembered the encouragement that Greenberg gave him. Greenberg was a 5-time All-Star, a 4-time home run champion, and a 2-time World Champion. Greenberg signed the baseball with a fine tip black marker, in big and bold script, on the sweet spot. The ball comes with a PSA/DNA Letter of Grading and Authenticity, Certification #AN02493, with the signature deemed AUTHENTIC and the signature receiving an Autograph Grade of 9.
