Authentic "FoxTrax" puck from the brief period in which Fox Sports brought its controversial technology to the sport of hockey. The puck resembles any other on its surface, but closer examination reveals four sensors on each side and around the edge. Official NHL (Bettman) puck displays the orange NHL shield on both sides, with a replica Gary Bettman autograph on one side. Historically, one of the primary complaints from casual and non-hockey fans has been the difficulty in following the small, black puck, for the uninitiated. Fox Sports endeavored to spice up the traditional game with new technological elements, including a puck that emanated a purple "glow" on the screen, which exploded into a red "comet tail" if a shot was hard enough. As could be expected, most traditional fans were horrified by the video game look, and the experiment lasted just two seasons, from 1996-97 to '97-98. Use is evident, though we are unable to vouch for game use.
