Presented is a Hank Greenberg single-signed Rawlings Official National League Baseball (Feeney). Greenberg was a Hall of Fame slugger who played the first 12 of his 13 Major League seasons with the Detroit Tigers (1930 & 1933-41 & 1945-46). A first baseman who also played some left field, he finished his career with a single season as a Pittsburgh Pirate in 1947. Greenberg was the first Major League player to enlist in the U.S. Armed Services in World War II. He missed all of the 1943-45 seasons to military service, all but 19 games in 1942, and most of the season in 1945. He hit 331 lifetime homers, but it's reasonable to assume that he could have reached 500 home runs if not for the time he missed during the prime of his career. Hank was a 2-time MVP and a 2-time World Series Champion. He had a career .313 batting average. In 1938, he was chasing Babe Ruth's single-season home run record and wound up the season with 58 homers. Tied at that time with Jimmie Foxx as the Major Leaguers with the most home runs in a season - other than Babe Ruth. He was baseball's first Jewish superstar, and in 1934, he sat out a key Tigers game that was played on Yom Kippur to demonstrate respect for the Jewish Day of Atonement. Greenberg was also known for his encouragement to Jackie Robinson in 1947, Robinson's first season and Greenberg's last. Greenberg became the first Jewish player in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Greenberg signed the offered baseball on the sweet spot, using a black ballpoint pen. He signed as Hank Greenberg. The autograph is 9/10. The baseball exhibits some light stains and a few small spots. The ball comes with a PSA LOA for the signature, Certification Number B06894, and a PSA/DNA hologram on the baseball.
