Presented is a 1970 NBA Finals Game 5 Ticket Stub, PSA VG-EX 4(MK), from the game between the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers, won 107-100 by New York. In the first quarter, Willis Reed, the Knicks' Hall of Fame center, tore his right thigh muscle and had to leave the game. The Knicks' main backup center, Nate Bowman, was not effective in guarding Lakers' center Wilt Chamberlain. Red Holzman talked it over with the Knicks' players and as a group, the Knicks improvised, using forwards Dave Stallworth and Dave DeBusschere as defensive centers against Chamberlain, and basically employing no offensive center and having whatever forward Chamberlain was covering shoot from outside, to draw Chamberlain away from the basket. The strategy worked and the Knicks took a 3-2 lead in games in the best-of-seven Finals. In Game 5, Chamberlain led the Lakers with 22 points, but he didn't score easily against the Knicks forwards guarding him. Walt Frazier led the Knicks with 21 points, and he added 12 assists. The Knicks won the team's first NBA Championship in the famous Game 7 of this series. That was when Reed, after being injected with painkillers, started the game, hit the Knicks' first two shots and inspired the Knicks with his effort, even though he only scored four points in the game. The offered Game 5 ticket stub measures approx. 1.75x2.5". The ticket stub is for a 2nd Promenade seat for $7.50. The stub has been encapsulated and PSA graded VG-EX 4(MK). It's a great memento of the Game 5 Knicks victory that paved the way to the team's first NBA Championship.
