Displayed is a limited edition, metal, life-size casting of the powerful right hand of International Boxing Hall of Fame fighter Archie Moore. Born as Archibald Lee Wright in Benoit, Mississippi, and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Moore fought professionally from 1933-1963, one of the longest professional boxing careers. Moore had 219 fights, with 186 wins, 23 losses 10 draws, a single no-contest, and an amazing 132 knockouts, second only to Britain's Billy Bird for the most knockouts in boxing history. Primarily a light heavyweight, Moore held the World Light Heavyweight Championship from 1952-62, the longest reigning World Light Heavyweight Champion in history. He was nicknamed "The Mongoose" and then later in his career he was called "The Old Moore." Moore was also an actor, and appeared in eight movies, most notably, with excellent reviews, as "Jim" in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The metal casting is 6.75" long and about 3.5" wide. It weighs 36.25 ounces. On the bottom of the casting, at the "sliced off" wrist, it was handwritten into the original mold used to make this casting as "(c)97" (for a 1997 copyright) and "Archie Moore [/] LCB." The same section of the original mold used to make this casting had a machine-stamped "36 [/] 500" indicating that the casting was number 36 out of 500. Moore signed the casting on the back of the hand as "Archie Moore," writing in big, bold, and neat script with a black marker. The casting is flesh-toned. There is some chipping to the finish. Apart from the chipping, the casting is in excellent condition, and the sinews, tendons, and muscles absolutely pop. We have seen other boxers' fist castings, but this is the first one of Archie Moore. Any true boxing aficionado will feel compelled to hold the fist up close, imaging the fist as a coiled Mongoose itself, about to strike, and the casting will aptly display to any observer, the sheer and evident power - the fascinating potential terror - of Moore's near-lethal right fist.
