Displayed is a 1997 NCAA Division I College World Series Championship ring that was presented to LSU shortstop Brandon Larson, who was named as the Most Outstanding Player (MOP) in that College World Series. The '97 College World Series was played at Rosenblatt Stadium, in Omaha, Nebraska. The tournament had eight teams, with each team representing one region. The tourney had a double-elimination format. In the final game, LSU defeated Alabama by a score of 13-6. Brandon Larson had a terrific college season in 1997: He bashed an amazing 40 home runs, drove in 118, and batted .381. Larson was a first-round selection in the 1997 MLB draft, 14th overall. He performed well in the minor leagues, but only had limited action in parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues with Cincinnati, batting .179. The impressively designed ring does not have a manufacturer's stamp. The face of the ring has the design of a baseball diamond. Four sparkling stones represent home plate and the three bases. The ring face also has "LSU" in raised letters, in the purple hue of an LSU color. Raised letters and numbers around the ring face read, TIGERS 1997 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. The right prong reads, in raised letters and numerals, "LARSON/SEC/CHAMPIONS/16 (Larson's number)." The left prong, in raised letters and numerals, reads, "DYNASTY/NCAA COLLEGE WORLD SERIES 1997/57-13." The ring is size 11.5. The ring is in EXCELLENT condition.
