Selection of three magazines marks a turning point in the history of American sports photojournalism. Most collectors are familiar with the August 16, 1954, inaugural edition of Sports Illustrated such as the one offered here, which remains in EX condition and includes the original undetached card inserts. Accompanying this landmark issue are two far rarer issues, before the fledgling magazine even had a name. "Dummy 1" was a proof created in December of 1953 under the title, "The New Sport Magazine" and remains intact and in VG-EX condition. The second was created in April of 1954 with the less-subtle name of "DUMMY" across the top in stencil-styled lettering and a sub-header reading, "The New Weekly Sport Magazine," also in VG-EX condition. Each is loaded with original content, nice assortment from the infancy of the nation's most recognizable sport publication.
