Displayed is a 1998 Willie Mays signed tax document, for the 1997 tax year. Mays is still regarded by some as the greatest player in baseball history. A true 5-tool player, Mays won 12 Gold Gloves for his brilliant fielding in center field, and he belted 660 home runs, stole 334 bases, batted .302 lifetime and had a cannon for an arm. He played his entire career in the National League for the New York/San Francisco Giants (1951-52 & 1954-72) and the New York Mets (1972-73). Presented are four documents relating to business taxes of Hall of Fame center fielder Willie Mays, with one of the documents signed by Mays: 1) The Mays signed document is an 8.5x11", four-page U.S. Corporation Tax Return for 1997. The taxes are for "Willie Mays Enterprises, Inc." of Ridgewood, New Jersey. This tax return shows $0.00 in assets and $0.00 in liabilities. The taxable income was $805.00. The business of the corporation was "promotions" and the tax form involved a "Close-out" of the corporation. Mays signed the tax form near the bottom of page #1. Mays neatly wrote, in an 8/10 signature, as "Willie Mays" in blue ink from a ballpoint pen. 2) New York City General Corporation Tax Return 4S for 1997. This 8.5x11" three-page, unsigned tax return was for "Willie Mays Say Hey, Inc." and it indicated a total capital of $13,541. The form also listed Willie Mays as President of the Corporation, receiving a salary of $20,000. The pages also included a filled-in automatic extension for filing the form. 3) New York S Corporation Franchise 1997 unsigned Tax Return CT-4-S, with three pages of documentation on 8.5x11" paper for "Willie Mays Say Hey, Inc." showing an entire year net income base of $19,700 for "Willie Mays Say Hey, Inc." and including a request for a six-month filing extension. 4) U.S. Income Tax Return (unsigned) for an S Corporation. Nine pages measuring 8.5x11". The return shows the corporation with an ordinary net income of (minus) -$20,415.
