Boston Red Sox home jersey worn by knuckleball pitcher Tim Wakefield during the club's historic 2004 World Championship season. The white knit jersey is lettered "Red Sox" across the front and features the number 49 on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in red on navy tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Russell Athletic" label, a "2004" year tag, and a "50" size tag. Wakefield has inscribed the jersey ("Tim Wakefield 49") in black marker (grading 9/10) on the upper left breast. Although no name appears on the jersey, Wakefield was the only player to wear number 49 for the Red Sox in 2004. The jersey is original as issued and displays light use. Wakefield started 30 games for the Red Sox in 2004, finishing the season with 12 wins and a 4.87 ERA to help lead the club to its first World Championship since 1918. Wakefield retired after the 2011 season with 200 wins and a 4.41 lifetime ERA.
