Vintage statue depicting a circa 1910s football player in a punting pose. Although the player is not identified and may be generic, he does bear a resemblance to former Notre Dame football star George Gipp. Further attribution to Gipp is based upon the fact that this statue originates from an estate in Gipp's hometown of Laurium, Michigan. The statue, which appears to be fashioned out of plaster or composite material, is mounted upon a wooden base, with the total height measuring 23.75 inches. There was once a plaque attached to the wood base, but it has been removed (the mounting holes and outline are all that remain). No artist's name or credit appears on the piece. The statue displays a light smattering of green paint along the statue base (giving it a tarnished bronze look), as well as a few tiny chips and small surface blemishes/paint specks to the main figure. The wooden base displays several moderate cracks. Please note: The size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
