Presented is a pair of Claude Osteen game-worn spikes from a time during his tenure as a starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1965-73). The 5'11" lefthander, a 3-time All-Star, pitched for 18 Major League seasons: Cincinnati Reds (1957 & '59-61); Washington Senators (1961-64); Los Angeles Dodgers (1965-73); Houston Astros (1974), St. Louis Cardinals (1974); Chicago White Sox (1975). Osteen had a Major League lifetime record of 196-195, with a 3.30 ERA. Osteen's best season for the Dodgers was in 1972, when he went 20-15, with a 2.66 ERA. In '65, Osteen was a key starter on the Dodgers as the club became World Champions. Although Osteen's record that year was 15-15, he pitched in bad luck as his ERA was a sparkling 2.66. The Wilson black spikes are size 10.5. A "Wilson" manufacturer's tag is on the inside tongue of each shoe. Written in black marker, by an unknown hand, is 23 on the top inner tongue of each shoe. The pair of spikes show great wear, in particular with wrinkles in the leather. The left shoe's inner cushion is present but, because of the passage of time, the glue holding the cushion in place has deteriorated and the cushion is present, but not attached. The spikes come from the renowned and reputable Louis Kendrick collection.
