Incredible artifact in this pair of Jack Dempsey's hand wraps from the 1919 World Championship bout against Jess Willard. Placed in a black display box, the cloth wraps show nice use with fraying at the edges and discoloration, likely a combination of sweat and age toning. Despite giving away over five inches in height to the towering Willard, Dempsey launched an early assault, inflicting a broken jaw and multiple knockdowns on his stunned foe to capture the bout after three rounds. Originally sold by Christie's and is accompanied with LOA signed by Mrs. Jack Dempsey, with Christie's sticker on bottom of display case. Also comes with a letter from the original owner to Dempsey, in which he says he was going to sell the wraps to two sports reporters for $300 if Dempsey did not want them. Then the owner did not hear from the reporters, so he decided to send Dempsey one of the two wraps.
