Framed display featuring an original Willard Mullin artwork of Ted Williams, a Willard Mullin handwritten letter, and a vintage Ted Williams photo that inspired Mullin's rendition of Williams. In his one-page letter, dated April 20, 1961, and written upon his personal letterhead, Mullin offers advice to an aspiring cartoonist, and in closing promises to send the young man an old original artwork of his. The artwork Mullin sent was one of Ted Williams in fishing gear, with his fishing haul dollars instead of a fish. Mullin's rendition of Williams was based upon a 1948 International News photo of Williams showing off a prize fishing catch. The letter (6x7.75"; visible dimensions), artwork (10.25x18"; visible dimensions) and photo (4.25x7.25"; visible dimensions) are all in apparent Excellent condition. The letter is accompanied by the original mailing envelope, while the photo is accompanied by its original paper news caption (dated "11-24-48"). All the items, along with a color photo of Mullin (recent print) have been matted and framed together to total dimensions of 31x25.5". While we believe the Williams photo is an original print, it has not been evaluated by PSA, so no guarantees are made regarding any specific Type designation. The size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
