Offered here is perhaps the earliest signature example of wrestling superstar John Cena to come to auction, and it appears on a most unlikely item: a baseball signed by the 1989 West Newbury (Massachusetts) Youth League All-Stars. Cena was a member of the team and his blue-ink signature (grading 7/10) appears on a side panel of this MacGregor "Little League" baseball. Our consignor was also a member of that club, and, as he explains in his accompanying letter of provenance, each player received a team-signed ball as a commemorative souvenir. In part: "My friend and teammate was John Cena, whose name can be found near mine. We signed these signatures sitting side-by-side and I happened to hold onto the ball as a prized childhood possession that remained in a box. I recently have been looking to thin my possessions and figured this would be a great collectible for the right person." The ball remains in Excellent to Mint condition. In addition to our consignor's letter of provenance, the ball is also accompanied by its original plastic ball holder, which is mounted upon a marble stand bearing an engraved plaque reading "West Newbury Little League 1989," and a copy of a team photo (John Cena is pictured standing in the back row, third from the right).
