Seattle Mariners lightweight nylon jacket worn by Hall of Fame outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. in 1992. This jacket has a unique provenance. In February, 1993, Ball 4 Sports, a Maryland company, purchased a large collection of game-used equipment directly from the Seattle Mariners. This jacket was included in that purchase and shortly afterward was offered publicly, along with all the other material obtained from the Mariners, in the company's advertised merchandise listings. Our consignor purchased it at that time and it has remained in his possession until now, making it basically new to the hobby. (Several other Ken Griffey items offered in this auction also originate from the same collection.)
The blue nylon zipper-front jacket displays the Mariners' logo patch on the left breast. A Starter label (size XL) appears in the collar, upon which is Griffey's uniform number 24 written in faded black marker. The jacket is original as issued and displays light wear. Although 1992 marked Ken Griffey Jr.'s fourth season in the Major Leagues, he had already established himself as one of the game's all-around best players. That reputation was solidified by his final batting numbers that season, which included 27 home runs, 103 RBI, and a .308 average. He also won his third consecutive Gold Glove Award at season's end. Please note: the Seattle Mariners letter to Ball 4 Sports and the original advertisement listing this jacket in 1993, images of which are posted on our website, DO NOT accompany the jacket. They are for informational purposes only.
