1994 The Sporting News "Sportsman of the Year" award originates directly from the collection of that year's recipient, Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith. Award comes in two pieces, with 7x3.75x2" black base bearing a plate reading, "The Sporting News - 1994 - Sportsman of the Year - Emmitt Smith - Dallas Cowboys." Silver-colored plate shows extensive wear and surface loss. The oval-shaped crystal top has "The Sporting News Awards" etched around the outline of a hockey, basketball, football, and baseball player; measures roughly 9" to highest point and 5" to the widest point. Virtually all wear is confined to the base, with the crystal top remaining well-preserved. This award presumably covers Smith's 1993 MVP campaign, which included league highs of 1,486 yards and 5.3 yards per carry, finishing the season with an amazing 106.1 Yards Per Game average on the ground. Comes with Prova LOA from Smith, asserting that this is from his personal collection.
