Presented is a 1996 Wade Boggs game worn New York Yankees wool cap, used by the Hall of Fame third baseman during that season when the Yankees were World Champions. Boggs made a career of generating hits, 3,010 of them, to win five batting titles. The left-handed batter was a 12-time All-Star, an 8-time Silver Slugger winner, and a 2-time Gold Glove recipient. Boggs played 18 seasons in the Major Leagues: Boston Red Sox (1982-92), New York Yankees (1993-97), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (1998-99). He batted .328 lifetime, with 118 home runs. In the '96 campaign when Boggs wore this cap, he batted .311, with 80 runs scored. Boggs best seasons were from 1985-88, with Boston, when he won four consecutive batting crowns and batted between .357 and .368 each season, also winning the AL OBP title in each of those four years. The Boggs cap is in Navy blue, with white interlocking "NY" letters on the front. There are three tags on the rear, inner hatband: 1) Authentic Diamond Collection manufacturer's tag; 2) New Era (main tag), as the famous "flag" tag makes its debut. This main tag undergoes a major overhaul; 3) A size 7 1/4 tag also exhibits a major overhaul as it is now bigger than the main tag and features text about being "the only cap worn on the field by MLB players." On the back is an MLB tag. Underneath the bill of the cap, the number "12" has been printed in black marker by an unknown hand. On the left lower bill are a few tiny spots where the Navy blue exterior has worn off; otherwise, the cap is in excellent condition while still showing fine use. The offering is a great example of a Boggs cap, game used by the Hall of Famer.
