1916 photo dates from early in the career of Boston Red Sox pitcher Carl Mays. Measuring 5.25x7.5", the photo depicts the right-hander in follow through of his motion, and the front looks remarkably clean with no blemishes apparent. Back has a heavy pencil notation reading "Carl Mays Full Figure" though there is also a typed caption which has been crossed out. The caption discusses Mays' potential as a starter should the Red Sox make it back to that year's World Series. Obviously this generic photo was easily reused, explaining why the caption would be irrelevant at a later date. Mays was on the squad for the 1915 Series but did not play; he did start one game as the Sox did make the '16 Series as well, but he fared poorly in taking Boston's lone loss of the 4-1 series in Game 3.
