Vintage circa 1910s print capturing the 1888 World's Tourists posing on the Sphinx during a stop in Egypt. This is perhaps the most famous image from Albert Spalding's celebrated 1888-1889 World Baseball Tour and one that has been reproduced countless times in books and periodicals. Despite that fact, original examples are exceedingly rare. While this print is not an original photo from 1888, it is vintage, probably produced in the 1910s and, as such, offers collectors perhaps the next best alternative to an original. It also has a unique provenance. This print was discovered in an antique album compiled during the early 1920s and was the only baseball-related image in the book. The print (7x10"), produced on paper stock, is a faithful reproduction of the original and is lettered "Spalding American Base Ball Party. Chicago vs. All America at the Sphinx Febr. 9 - 1888" in the lower left. The photographer's credit, "P. Sebah (Cai_" appears in the lower right. Excellent condition.
