Displayed is the opportunity to possess the only known example of an Albertype Ty Cobb Hall of Fame Type 2 postcard that is dual-signed by the "Georgia Peach." Albertype postcards, exhibiting photos of National Baseball Hall of Fame plaques, were produced from 1944-52. One of the company's founders had the last name of Albert, and the postcards were soon called Albertypes (combining Albert and type and eliminating one letter "T"). The company's main manufacturing was done in Brooklyn, in New York City. The postcards came in two types: One type had "Cooperstown N.Y." (with the state name abbreviated) printed on the front of the card under the plaque image. The second type of postcard had "Cooperstown, New York" (with the state named spelled completely) printed under the plaque image. The offered postcard is of the aforementioned second type. The postcard measures 3.5x5.5". Under the image of Cobb, the plaque reads, "TYRUS RAY COBB/Detroit-Philadelphia, A.L., 1905-1928. Led American League in batting twelve times and created or equaled more Major League records than any other player. Retired with 4101 Major League hits." Cobb, an Inaugural Hall of Fame inductee, has signed the front of the card twice. One Cobb signature is near the bottom of the card, below the plaque image. The other Cobb signature is in the middle of the card, just above Cobb's name. In both autographs, Cobb has used his trademark green ink to sign with a fountain pen. Each signature reads, "Ty Cobb." The postcard has been encapsulated, and both of the signatures have been PSA/DNA certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO. The dual-signed Cobb Albertype HOF postcard makes a valued, unique collectible.
