Boston Braves 1948 National League Championship ring issued to catcher Phil Masi. This ring has been consigned directly by a member of the Masi family and has never before been offered for public sale. The design of the 10K gold ring features a single diamond set within a red stone. The lettering around the perimeter of the stone reads "National League Baseball Club of Boston - League Champions." One shank displays the year ("1948") above the team's "Indian Chief" logo. The opposite shank displays an array of baseball equipment, including bats, a ball, and a glove. The name "Phil Masi" is engraved within the band, along with "Murchison 10K." Masi's name today is almost synonymous with the 1948 World Series because of his central involvement in one of the most controversial plays in Series history. Masi was the runner on second base in Game 1 who was caught napping on an attempted pickoff between Bob Feller and Lou Boudreau. Although Masi appeared to be out, the umpire called him safe and he later scored the game's only run, denying Feller what would have been his first and only World Series victory. The Indians overcame the call and defeated the Braves in six games. The ring remains in Excellent condition overall, displaying wear commensurate with its age and former use. Size: 11.
