Displayed is a 1912 Souvenir Biography and Score Book used in Game 3 of the "World's Series" at Fenway Park in Boston between the visiting New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox. The game is scored in pencil. The Giants, behind the complete game pitching of Rube Marquard, won the game 2-1. The Giants had a 103-48-3 regular season record. Hall of Famers Christy Mathewson (23-12) and Rube Marquard (26-11) were the team's aces, and catcher Jack Meyers batted .358 on the season. The Giants were managed by Hall of Famer John McGraw, and the team's lone coach was Hall of Famer Wilbert Robinson. The Red Sox went 105-47-2 in the regular season and won this "World's Series" 4-3-1 in games. The Red Sox were managed by Jake Stahl and the team's leading hitter was Hall of Famer Tris Speaker, who batted .383 in '12. The top Boston pitcher in '12 was Smokey Joe Wood, with a 34-5 record. Buck Herzog drove in the Giants' first run in the top of the second to score Murry. Art Fletcher had the second Giants' RBI in the top of the fifth inning when he doubled in Herzog. The Red Sox fought back in the bottom of the ninth as a Larry Gardner double scored Duffy Lewis, but Marquard bore down and closed the door. Starter Buck O'Brien took the Boston loss. The souvenir biography and score book measures 7x10" and has 36 pages. The booklet functions as a type of yearbook/scorecard. Not only does it contain photos of the Red Sox players, complete with biographies, but the advertisements open an intriguing window to the times. At a time when shirts often had separate collars, Arrow Collars and Shirts has a full-page advertisement. Fashion ads show the hats of the day, and vintage cars, such as the Chalmers, are depicted. The offering exhibits some toning and darkening because of over a century of age, and there are a few very small stains, but overall, especially considering the item's age, the booklet is in very good condition.
