The Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees met in seven World Series from 1941-1956, and the Bronx Bombers won them all, except for the 1955 encounter, which Brooklyn won in seven games for the Dodgers' only Brooklyn World's Championship. Presented is a Dodgers/New York Yankees felt 1955 World Series pennant. Measuring 29" in length from its larger end to the tip, the pennant measures 11.25" at its wider end. In addition, four tassels of approx. 3.5" in length, protrude from the wider end. The pennant includes images of a Dodgers cap and the Yankees logo, with its red, white, and blue top hat. The attractive pennant reads, "Dodgers New York Yankees WORLD SERIES 1955." The Dodgers' Hall of Famers in the '55 Series: Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider and HOF manager Walt Alston. Yankees Hall of Famers in that World Series: Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra, Enos Slaughter, and HOF manager Casey Stengel. In the '55 seventh game, Johnny Podres pitched a complete game 2-0 win, with a spectacular, Dodgers game saving Sandy Amoros catch in left field as the game's greatest play. In the bottom of the ninth inning with two out, when the Yankees' Elston Howard grounded to short and Pee Wee Reese threw to Gil Hodges at first, Brooklyn finally had its long-sought championship. The pennant has a few stains, mostly very small, and there is occasional creasing and a bit of cracking on the paint of some of the letters. The very tip, about 0.25", is missing from the pointed end of the pennant and one of the tassels is missing about 0.5" from its end. Overall, the pennant is in good condition, and it makes a great remembrance from the iconic '55 World Series.
