Ty Cobb was one of the greatest baseball players of all time, but that wasn't the only outstanding skill of the Inaugural Hall of Fame center fielder: He was also a great investor. Presented is a 1955 Ty Cobb signed check. Known as the Georgia Peach, Cobb played from 1905-28, all in the American League, with the Detroit Tigers from 1905-26 (the last six years as a playing-manager) and the Philadelphia Athletics (1927-28). He holds the highest lifetime MLB batting average of all qualifying batters, at .366. Cobb led the American League in batting average for 11 or 12 seasons, depending on the source. Until 1985, he had the most MLB lifetime hits, with 4,189 or 4,191, also depending on the source. He formerly held the modern MLB stolen base record, with 892. He still has the highest combined number of MLB runs scored and RBIs, deducting for home runs, at 4,065. As a native Georgian, Cobb was aware of a promising new company, based in Atlanta, known as Coca-Cola. Cobb was shrewd, and he invested heavily in Coca-Cola, and as a player with the Tigers, Cobb learned a great deal about Detroit's General Motors, and Cobb wisely invested heavily in G.M. With repeated investments and stock growth, Cobb accumulated quite a fortune. The offered Cobb signed check, dated 5/8/1955, seems a fitting remembrance from a baseball player who became a man of amazing financial success. The Cobb check measures 3.1x8.1", and it is drawn on the Main Office of the First National Bank of Nevada, in the amount of $37.60. The check has "Tyrus R. Cobb" machine-printed on the side. Cobb wrote the check, in neat script, using his trademark green ink, from a fountain pen. Cobb made the check payable to the "Olympic Club." The check exhibits some exceptionally tiny paper loss, in the upper left corner, most likely when the check was removed from a check book. Overall, the check is in excellent condition. The check has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
