Displayed is a photo signed and inscribed by two great New York Yankees Hall of Fame center fielders, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle, posing next to each other with bats, in away uniforms. The photo was made off the original negative, which could have been created during the 1951 season, when Mantle was a rookie and DiMaggio was in his final season. Apparently, the photo was signed years later by DiMaggio and Mantle. DiMaggio helped the Yankees win nine World Series, and he was a 3-time AL MVP who batted .325 lifetime, with 361 homers and that marvelous 56 game hitting streak in 1941, still the Major League record. As for fielding, there were contemporary players of Joltin' Joe who said they never saw a better center fielder than the Yankee Clipper. Mantle bashed 536 home runs, the most in baseball history for a switch hitter, and in 1961 he was neck and neck with Roger Maris as the two Yankee outfielders chased Babe Ruth's single-season home run record of 60. Mantle didn't play as smooth a center field as did DiMaggio, but Mickey's great speed as a young player let him outrun most mistakes. DiMaggio, always dignified in public, signed and inscribed the photo, in black marker, by writing, "To Stephen Best Wishes Joe DiMaggio." Mickey Mantle, who often liked to shock fans with his comments and antics, did not take the dignified approach of DiMaggio when signing the photo. Using a black marker, Mantle wrote, "Hey Joe Stephen sucks - Mickey Mantle." Both Joltin' Joe and Mickey used clearly written, large, neat script for their signature and inscription. The photo is 16x20", framed to 21x25". A 2.5" long top piece of the frame is missing. The offered item not only presents both a DiMaggio and Mantle signature, each with an inscription, but contrasts DiMaggio's formal language with the earthy style used by Mantle.
