Circa 1976-1978 Washington Redskins home jersey worn by Hall of Fame running back John Riggins. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. What is especially unique to this jersey is the inclusion of two customized side seams, each of which features a zipper running from the base of the garment to just under the armpit. This is one of only two such Riggins jerseys we have seen that feature these custom zippers, making it a truly desirable example. The jersey also comes with the special provenance of having been sourced directly from the Washington Redskins in the early 1980s.

The maroon mesh jersey features the number "44" on the front, reverse, and each sleeve. "Riggins" is lettered upon a maroon nameplate on the reverse. All letters are applied in white tackle twill, while all numerals are silk screened in white. The jersey has no manufacturer's labels or size tags, but there is no evidence of either having removed. The jersey is original as issued and displays moderate wear, including a paint transfer on the left shoulder.

Riggins joined the Washington Redskins as a free agent in 1976 after playing five seasons with the New York Jets. During his first season he was used primarily as a short-yardage back and gained 572 yards and 3 touchdowns. His second season with the club was basically lost due to injury, but in 1978 he returned to lead the team in rushing, gaining 1,014 yards on 248 carries, with 5 touchdowns. One of the game's most bruising running backs, Riggins later led the Redskins to two Super Bowls and one World Championship. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1992.
