Displayed is a 1926 World Series Game 1 ticket stub from the Oct. 2nd game at Yankee Stadium in which Lou Gehrig made his World Series debut as the Bronx Bombers, before 61,658 fans, defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1. Gehrig had played for the Yankees very briefly in 1923-24. He played a full season in 1925, and he began his record-breaking consecutive games streak on June 1st in 1925. In 1926, Gehrig was playing every day, and the first baseman batted .313, with 20 home runs and 68 RBIs. In Gehrig's first World Series game, he batted fifth and played his normal position at first base. Gehrig faced Cardinals starter Bill Sherdel in the bottom of the first and tied the game at 1-1 when he drove in Earle Combs on a ground out. Gehrig made out on a fly ball to left field in the 3rd inning, and in the bottom of the 6th inning, Lou drove in Babe Ruth from second base with a single. In Gehrig's last at bat on the day, he flew out to left field in the 8th inning. The offered ticket stub measures 2.2x4.2". In part, the stub reads, "General Admission BLEACHERS unreserved/Number 16087/$1.10/Yankee Stadium 1926 Game 1." The stub exhibits some darkening because of the passage of nearly a century. The stub has a small stain on the lower right corner. The stub has been encapsulated and PSA graded GOOD 2.
