The Brooklyn Atlantics Baseball Club is generally regarded as the sport's first champion and first dynasty, earning a title in 1857 and adding seven more trophies over the next dozen years. From their heyday comes this handsome, wooden walking stick with wooden, hand-painted baseball on top. "A.B.B.C, Brooklyn" is painted on the ball, with the acronym standing for Atlantic Base Ball Club. Measures 34" (just short of three feet). The Atlantics were among the very first ballclubs to declare themselves professionals and were the first baseball team ever to visit the White House after their undefeated 1865 championship season, on the invitation of President Andrew Johnson. Perhaps this relic made the trip to Washington?
