Displayed is an unused, full ticket to the October 6, 1958, World Series Game 5 played between the visiting Milwaukee Braves and the home New York Yankees before 65,279 at Yankee Stadium. Bob Turley was the Yankee starting pitcher and Lew Burdette started on the mound for the Braves. The Braves were only one win away from winning the Series with a 3-1 lead in games. In the game, the Yankees broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning on a bases empty homer by Gil McDougald. Going into the bottom of the sixth inning, New York held onto a 1-0 lead. Then the Yankees broke upon the game and knocked Burdette out of the box as they scored six runs that inning. Yogi Berra doubled in a run, Bill Skowron hit a single to drive in another and McDougald drove in two more runs with a double. Pitcher Turley handled the coup de grace with his two-run single. Turley went the distance, pitching a 5-hit shutout. Hall of Famers in the game for the Braves: Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, and Red Schoendienst. Hall of Famers playing in the game for the Yankees: Mickey Mantle, and Berra. HOF Yankee left-hander Whitey Ford pitched in the Series, but not in this game. The Yankees were managed by Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel. The Braves were skippered by Fred Haney. The World Series moved back to Milwaukee, and the Yankees took the final two games to win the Series in seven games and avenge Milwaukee's World Series win over the Yankees in 1957. The full ticket measures approx. 2.25x7.3". The ticket has been encapsulated and PSA graded as EX 5.
